Large aperture imaging optical systems
Patent 8,169,717
Large aperture optical systems that are extremely well corrected over a large flat field and over a large spectral range are disclosed. Breathing and aberration variation during focusing are optionally controlled by moving at least two groups of lens elements independently. Aberration correction in general is aided by allowing the working distance to become short relative to the format diagonal. Field curvature is largely corrected by a steeply curved concave surface relatively close to the image plane. This allows the main collective elements to be made of low-index anomalous dispersion materials in order to correct secondary spectrum. In wide-angle example embodiments, distortion may be controlled with an aspheric surface near the front of the lens.

Method and apparatus for monitoring intra ocular and intra cranial pressure
Patent 8,172,769
A method and apparatus for measuring acoustic energy applied to the head to detect increases in intracranial pressure. Acoustic eye patches are applied to a patient’s eye or eyelid, and an ultrasonic sweep generator applies an acoustic signal across the patient’s skull, the signal being swept across a predetermined range. The eye patches have piezoelectric film sensors for measuring the acoustic signal. In one embodiment the predetermined range is in the ultrasonic band and an analyzer determines from the output of the sensors a resonant frequency and a damping of acoustic amplitude at said resonant frequency, there being a correlation between said damping and intra cranial pressure. In another embodiment the predetermined range includes a range less than 20 kHz and the analyzer determines retinal artery pulsations, with pressure being applied to the eye until the pulsations disappear, such pressure being a measure of intra cranial pressure.

Skin treatments with carboxylic acid-substituted idebenone derivatives
Patent 8,173,703
The present invention relates to novel carboxylic acid-substituted idebenone derivatives, skin treatment compositions containing these carboxylic acid-substituted idebenone derivatives, methods of treating skin changes by topical application of these carboxylic acid-substituted idebenone derivatives, and their methods of synthesis. The carboxylic acid-substituted idebenone derivatives of the present invention are unexpectedly effective in treating skin, particularly with respect to skin tolerance. When included in a topical composition, the carboxylic acid-substituted idebenone derivatives of the present invention have an antioxidant effect that is useful in treating a skin change.

Multiaxial fabric with strain-responsive viscous liquid polymers
Patent 8,171,569
The invention concerns multiaxial fabrics comprising a first layer comprising a plurality of first yarns being substantially parallel in a first direction, a second layer comprising a plurality of second yarns being substantially parallel in a second direction and skew or off-set with respect to the first yarns, transverse yarn interlaced transversely within the layers; wherein each layer is coated with a high viscosity polymer that has a Tg in the range of about -40 to about 0.degree. C., and a zero shear viscosity of about 2.times.10.sup.6 to about 10.sup.13 poise at 20.degree. C.

Live botmaster traceback
Patent 8,176,173
Embodiments locate a botmaster on a network. A honeynet host is configured to join a botnet and generate a watermarked packet flow by applying a watermark to an outgoing packet flow in response to commands from the botmaster. The watermark is applied to the outgoing packet flow by: choosing distinct packets from the outgoing packet flow; forming packet pair(s) from the distinct packets, that include a reference packet and an encoding packet; and encoding bits in the watermark to the packet pair(s) by increasing the length of the encoding packet when watermark bits have a predetermined value. The cooperating node(s) are configured to: inspect passing packet flows for the watermarked packet flow and generate tracking information related to detection of the watermarked packet flow. The path determination processor is configured to analyze the tracking information to locate a path taken by the watermarked packet flow.

Method, system and apparatus for liquid injection into a gas system
Patent 8,173,088
A method for injection reductant into an exhaust gas and for evaporating and decomposing the reductant at an elevated temperature includes providing an exhaust pipe having an interior surface and disposing the pipe in fluid communication with and upstream of a catalyst. The method includes the steps of disposing an internal cone within the pipe generally parallel to the pipe, mounting an injector to the exterior of the pipe in fluid communication with the cone, injecting the reductant into the cone, and directing the exhaust gas in a passage between the interior surface of the pipe and the cone. The exhaust gas is directed within the cone. The flow of exhaust gas has an elevated temperature compared to an ambient. A further step includes creating a drag force on the injected reductant to increase travel time of the injected reductant from the injector to the catalyst.

Method for optimizing a route cache
Patent 8,175,098
A system and method for managing a route cache to reduce the risk of disruption from denial of service attacks. All traffic arriving on a front interface from local (on-link) nodes (e.g., neighbor nodes) can be treated normally. However, for packets arriving from remote (off-link) sources addressed to a given destination IP address, a single, shared route cache entry can be used. The source-address field in this entry can be zeroed-out since it will not be used for traffic coming from any one source. Similarly, for all packets going to off-link destinations through the front-interface, another single shared route cache entry can be created and used. The destination-address field in this entry can be zeroed out since it will not be used for traffic going to any one destination.
