Smoke will soon rise from a local barbecue chain’s newest location.
Q Barbeque, run by pit master and reality TV star Tuffy Stone, is aiming to have a new Chesterfield location up and running in June. It will be Q’s fourth restaurant and its first standalone space.
“All of our other stores are shopping center end caps, so it will be interesting to see how having a standalone store changes things,” Stone said. “It will sort of be an experiment.”
Stone said the new store, at 13800 Fribble Way off of Hull Street near Swift Creek Reservoir, has been in the works for more than a year and has had numerous delays.
“We were hoping to have things done by now, but, when we got in there, we found significant structural problems,” he said. “The building had to be completely reworked.”
Renovations on the 4,200-square-foot property are being done by Graybeal Construction and will cost about $600,000, Stone said. The building is a former Friendly’s location and will seat 120 inside. A new patio will seat another 30 to 40 patrons, he said.
Stone, who stars in the Destination America show “BBQ Pitmasters,” said he had a lot of faith in the new location.
“In terms of just vehicle traffic, there are more eyeballs on this store than any of our other stores,” he said. “As far as demographics, we feel like that’s a good location.”
Q opened a location last fall at the Corner at Short Pump. Stone said he was going to focus on running the current locations for the next few months before eying any further expansion.
“We’re going to be fine-tuning and tweaking our processes and organization,” he said. “It’s one thing to grow in locations, but I think you have to grow as a company as well. So once we do all that, we’ll get our heads together this fall and see if there are new opportunities out there.”
CBRE brokers Will Bradley and Rob Dirom worked the deal for Q.

Congratulations! Q has the best barbeque anywhere, bar none. We use Q to cater our Renewable Energy School in Midlothian & have students from all over the the east coast attending. Sometimes it seems they are more excited about the BBQ than the course. Many of them go by after the school to take some home.
I think every city should have a Q Barbecue!
As an Ashbrook residence, I am looking forward to the addition of Q to the area. I think they will have a strong market with all the neighborhoods and lack of anything comparable in the vicinity. Can’t wait!
We are very excited about this new location, and can’t wait to review the establishment for the Richmond River City Guide.
Congratulations Q! I don’t live near a Q but have had their delicious BBQ several times before and think it’s wonderful. Additionally both Tuffy and his wife have helped out with a charitable cause that I try to raise money for from time to time.
I used to live a block away from Alamo in Church Hill and they are absolutely by favorite, however, Q is a very close second in my book.
Good luck with your new location!
Best BBQ ever…Q rocks!
when is the 13800 Fribble Way location opening? I am seeking employment and have the application waiting to be turned in.
