A Manchester marketing firm is trying its hand in the home decor industry.

Micheal Sparks Design this month launched MSDModern, an interior design shop that will sell mid-century chairs, tables and lighting.

“I’ve been collecting pieces for 30 years, and it slowly turned from a hobby into a core part of my business,” Micheal Sparks said.

Both the marketing firm and showroom for the decor shop are housed in a 3,000-square-foot office at 205 Hull St. The firm specializes in branding and website design, but Sparks said he’s been selling pieces since he opened Micheal Sparks Design in 2009.

He said the new name is a way to separate the two parts of his business.

“We don’t want any of our clients thinking, ‘Okay, what does this guy do?’” Sparks said. “This should eliminate some of that confusion.”

To kick off MSDModern, the company also designed a line of custom blown-glass lamps. The pieces will retail for between $275 and $545.

Last year, Sparks helped run Antiques in Manchester, a weekly outdoor antique market.

Era Vintage, another furniture shop that sells mid-century designs, opened last month in Church Hill.
