Tech firm installs a new leadership version

Greg Samuels

The heir apparent of a local tech consulting firm is now in the boss’s chair.

Greg Samuels, 42, last month purchased control of B2B Solutions from company founder Dave Klein. B2B, headquartered on Westerre Parkway in Henrico County, provides a CIO-for-hire service as well as database and IT services to companies that are not large enough to maintain full-time IT departments.

B2B “has really afforded them the opportunity to have senior leaders and not need to pay senior leader salaries,” Samuels said.

Klein, formerly a senior IT director for DuPont, founded B2B in 1997. Samuels joined the company two years ago after serving as CIO for Richmond-based Interbake Foods. He also previously worked at Circuit City’s corporate office.

Both Virginia Tech graduates, Klein and Samuels met about 10 years ago. Samuels said he planned eventually to purchase the company from Klein when he joined B2B. Klein is retiring but will continue to serve as a consultant and mentor for B2B, Samuels said.

Samuels bought a 100 percent controlling stake in B2B. The terms of the sale were not disclosed, but Samuels said the purchase was financed primarily through Wells Fargo Small Business Administration loans.

B2B is coming off its best year to date, Samuels said, although he would not share specific sales figures. The company has 15 employees.
