Cigarettes and filter subassemblies with squeezable flavor capsule and methods of manufacture
Patent 8,459,272
Improved delivery of additive materials to cigarettes is provided through the use of one or more capsules containing additive materials, such as flavor components, in the filter section of a cigarette. The capsule or capsules are provided between first and second absorbent members and the capsules are subjected to an external force, such as squeezing, by a smoker prior to or during smoking of the cigarette in order to release at least a portion of the additive material and expose the additive material to mainstream smoke passing through the filter. The capsules provide a barrier between the additive materials and other cigarettes components, such as sorbents or filter materials, in order to reduce additive material migration into the other cigarette components prior to desired use. An outer cover which is impermeable to the fluid within the capsules is provided about the capsule or capsules and the first and second absorbent members.
Inventors: Georgios D. Karles (Richmond); Jeffrey Allen (Midlothian); Jose Nepomuceno (Beaverdam, Va.)

Extract biased exponent of decimal floating point data
Patent 8,468,184
A decimal floating point finite number in a decimal floating point format is composed from the number in a different format. A decimal floating point format includes fields to hold information relating to the sign, exponent and significand of the decimal floating point finite number. Other decimal floating point data, including infinities and NaNs (not a number), are also composed. Decimal floating point data are also decomposed from the decimal floating point format to a different format. For composition and decomposition, one or more instructions may be employed, including an insert biased exponent or extract biased exponent instruction.

Life cycle of a work packet in a software factory
Patent 8,464,205
A method, system, and computer-readable medium for managing a work packet’s life cycle, wherein the work packet is assembled in a software factory that creates custom software in a standardized manner, are presented. In a preferred embodiment, the computer-implemented method comprises the steps of: defining a work packet to perform a sub-function of a custom software, wherein the work packet is a pre-stored, reusable, self-contained, discrete unit of software code; assembling the work packet; archiving the work packet in an asset repository; retrieving the work packet from the asset repository; and sending the work packet to an assembly line for consolidation with other work packets to create a custom software.

Method and system for providing a loan using equity in a new home
Patent 8,463,697
Systems and methods are disclosed for financing a transition of a borrower between ownership of a prior home to ownership of a new home in conjunction with services. The transition is associated with an increase in living situation cost of the borrower between a prior living situation cost and a new living situation cost, the new living situation cost including the new home and the services. The method alleviates cash flow burden to the borrower by allowing minimal or no monthly payments for as long as the borrower occupies the home.
