Richmond’s bow tie crowd has a new place to shop.

Men’s apparel company Collared Greens this week unveiled its new local retail store. It’s the five-year-old brand’s first company-owned store.

The North Carolina-based brand this summer leased a 900-square-foot space at 5707 Grove Ave., near the corner of Libbie and Grove avenues. It has since been getting the store ready for this week’s grand opening.

The company has sold its bow ties, neckties, cummerbunds and polo shirts through its website and via wholesale to more than 200 retailers across the country. With its items sold previously in only one local store, it wanted to increase its presence in Richmond.

“Not many [Richmond] retailers carry our clothes,” said Jeremy Bull, a Collared Greens co-founder. “That’s one of the reasons we wanted a store in Richmond. It’s one of our best markets, and we felt it was underserved.”

Founded by a four-person team of Hampden-Sydney graduates that includes two local natives, Collared Greens hopes to relocate its headquarters to Richmond.

Chief operating officer and Richmond native Mason Antrim, 31, said the company plans to make the move in 2014.

On its website, Collared Greens charges $55 for bow ties, $85 for neckties and $75 for polo shirts. The company also carries T-shirts, belts, hats and visors.
