Induction of tumor hypoxia for cancer therapy
Patent 8,591,921
Methods and compositions for enhancing the ability of hypoxia-activated bioreductive agents to kill tumor cells within solid tumors are provided. Local regions of hypoxia are created within a tumor, or within a region containing a tumor, resulting in enhanced activation of hypoxia-activated bioreductive agents (e.g. tirapazamine) within the local region. The activated hypoxia-activated bioreductive agents kill tumor cells in the hypoxic region by catalyzing DNA stand breakage within the tumor cells. Because the activity is localized, side effects that typically occur as a result of systemic administration of bioreductive agents are reduced.

System and method for assigning a line of credit to a credit card account
Patent 8,600,869
A system assigns a credit limit to an account for a credit card of a card holder based on whether the card holder poses an acceptable risk. The system activates an account for the credit card, assigns an initial credit limit well below a tolerance level to the account, develops credit history data based on account activity during predetermined short intervals of time, evaluates the credit history data after each of the predetermined short time intervals, and determines whether to increase the credit limit of the account based on the evaluated credit history.

Vertical filter filling machine and process
Patent 8,591,390
A process and apparatus for the mass production of compound cigarette filters function to deposit granular filter material into the open ends of vertically oriented filter tubes. Predetermined amounts of diverse granular material are withdrawn by suction from sources of such material, and these amounts are deposited into the tubes. Solid filter segments seal the granular material within the tube. After one half of each filter tube is filled with granular material and sealed, the tube is inverted and the opposite end is filled in substantially the same manner. When cut in half each filter tube produces two cigarette filters.

Persona-based identity management system
Patent 8,595,857
A method, performed by a computer device, may include receiving personal data from a user device associated with personas, where each of the personas corresponds to at least one classification of requesters, associating the received personal data with at least one of the personas, and identifying any of the classifications that correspond to the personas associated with received personal data. The method may further include receiving, from a data requester, a query including a request for the personal data; associating the data requester with a classification; and comparing the classification associated with the data requester to the classifications associated with personal data. The method may further include sending, to the data requester, a message containing the personal data in response to the classification of the data requester corresponding to the classifications of the personal data.

Roller bearing seal
Patent 8,596,872
A bearing assembly is presented having a novel bearing seal design that, in one embodiment, combines the sealing advantages of both a labyrinth-like seal in combination with a contact seal. The seal is held perpendicularly to the sealing surface, and in one embodiment, substantially divides the sealing forces equally between the lubricant seal portion and the dust seal portion of the seal by virtue of the symmetry of the seal geometry and the application of the resisting force substantially along the seal body’s centerline. The seal departs from the cantilever geometry of prior art seal designs, and in one embodiment, provides an inherently stiffer seal.
