After more than two years in business, a local restaurateur says it’s time to take a break.

Selba at 2416 W. Cary St. closed May 18 and will remain so for at least most of the summer. Owner Alan delForn, who opened the 6,000-square-foot restaurant in late 2011, said last summer was slow at Selba so he thought it was time to “recharge.”

“I’ll probably come back late summer with a new concept or revise the concept I’ve got to keep it fresh,” delForn said.

Still, delForn said he’s keeping his options open. If the right offer came along, he’d consider letting someone else take over.

“I learned a long time ago to always listen,” delForn said. “You can always say no.”

The Selba space can seat more than 200 and has an indoor smoking lounge and several rooms that can hold private events. Entrees at Selba cost $16 to $28.

Though Selba is now in hibernation, delForn’s other restaurant, Starlite Dining and Lounge at 2600 W. Main St., remains open.

For his part, delForn is heading to Miami Beach for a couple months.

“We’ve got plenty of time to figure out what we want to do,” delForn said.
