The new owners of Southside hotel have rebranded the property and are working on a multimillion dollar face-lift for the building.
The Sheraton Richmond Park South near Chesterfield Towne Center is now operating as a Four Points by Sheraton.
Robert Reed, regional vice president for the hotel’s ownership company SMI Hotel Group, said the rebrand was part of the deal when the company bought the hotel in June, and it will mean about $4 million worth of construction on the 194-room property.
“We worked in partnership with (Four Points parent company) Starwood to get what we all thought would be the right fit for the brand in the market,” Reed said. “The Four Points is more on par with Courtyard by Marriott, Hilton Garden Inn and those upper-midscale hotels.”
The hotel, which sits at 9901 Midlothian Turnpike, is now in the middle of a renovation that Reed said is scheduled to finish in the first quarter of 2015. SMI Group will revamp its 194 guest rooms, rework the lobby, restaurant and bar and expand the fitness room.
The work will create a more casual restaurant, and SMI Group will replace the Sheraton’s Club Lounge with an extra guest room. Reed said SMI has yet to name a general contractor for the project.
Starwood Hotels and Resorts owns both the Sheraton and Four Points concepts. Four Points is a notch down from the regular Sheraton brand, which the hotel company describes as luxury, upscale and full-service.
By the time the project is finished, SMI Group will have at least $11 million in the 28-year-old, 10-story hotel. The firm bought the property from an Iowa-based entity tied to The Principal Financial Group for $7 million.
SMI Group also owns the Four Points at 4700 S. Laburnum Ave. and Commonwealth Park Suites downtown at 901 Bank St.
SMI Group will have some new competition in the hotel market around Chesterfield Towne Center. SINA Hospitality is planning a Fairfield Inn and Suites on Pinetta Drive nearby.
