A golf-centric fitness studio is the latest new tenant to swing into a West End shopping center.
Align Fit, which teaches exercises aimed at improving golf performance, moved this month into 401 N. Ridge Road in the Tuckahoe Shopping Center.
Owner Madeline Parrish said the move will relocate the business out of her home and into about 350 square feet that she is subleasing from the Richmond Kettlebell Club.
Align Fit launched in 2006 and offers appointment-only sessions that incorporate Pilates and assisted fascial stretching intended to improve flexibility and balance. Fascial tissue is connective tissue that supports and protects the body.
Parrish has about 15 clients, most of whom are golfers. She said she helps them improve their stability, mobility, driving distance and grip strength.
Parrish said being a lifelong golfer helps her relate to her clients.
“I talk the language,” she said. “I’ve broken 80 twice at Country Club of Virginia.”
Parrish doesn’t have a medical background but holds 11 certifications from the Titleist Performance Institute, a company that offers classes on how the body functions in relation to playing golf.
In addition to Pilates equipment and stretching straps, Parrish has equipment that can produce 3-D analyses of a person’s golf swing and balance. Parrish said she has spent about $20,000 on equipment for her studio.
She charges $65 an hour for unscheduled appointments and sells five sessions for $300. She said she would eventually like to do small group classes.
Align Fit is just the latest new business that’s teeing off at the Tuckahoe Shopping Center. ShoreDog Coffee and Cafe and The Backyard Grill are set to open there, and Kuba Kuba Dos launched in April.
