A downtown Richmond law practice has a new view of the city – its first change of scenery in more than 20 years.
Kutak Rock last month relocated its local office to the west tower of Riverfront Plaza at 901 E. Byrd St. from the nearby Bank of America Center, where it and its predecessor firm had been since 1994.
Attorney Michael Condyles, who leads Kutak’s Richmond operations, said the firm first moved into the Bank of America Center when it was Maloney, Huennekens, Parks, Gecker and Parsons. It joined Kutak Rock, based in Omaha, Nebraska, in 2000.
“We were looking for a change and a great option became available,” Condyles said.
The firm has taken over about 8,900 square feet on the west tower’s 10th floor, a space left vacant last summer when accounting firm Elliott Davis Decosimo pulled out of the Richmond market.
Condyles said the new office is smaller than its BofA Center digs, but is a “much better utilization of the space.”
“Our old space did not economically utilize the square footage and floor plan we had,” he said, adding that the river views in Riverfront Plaza aren’t bad either.
Kutak has 12 employees in Richmond, including eight attorneys, focused largely on bankruptcy cases, as well as public finance, litigation and real estate. It has 17 offices and 500 attorneys companywide.
