A West End brewery is moving forward with its expansion plans.
The Answer Brewpub has filed plans with Henrico County to add an outdoor patio and expand into the space between it and Mekong restaurant at 6008 W. Broad St.
The plans were filed with the county Nov. 17. An Bui, who owns The Answer and Mekong, confirmed the expansion. Bui anticipates the plans will be finalized in December and hopes to have the patio ready by spring 2018.
“It’ll take us a while, but now we’ve got it going,” he said.
The brewpub will take over 3,900 square feet formerly occupied by Banner Express, which moved just east to 2111 Lake Ave. in 2015. The added space will store brewing ingredients and kitchen supplies for both Mekong and The Answer.
And The Answer’s loading dock will be converted into a 1,100-square-foot wooden deck.
“Our front door is actually in the back (of the building). That’s where the patio will go,” Bui said.
Plans also call for slight reworking of the adjacent parking lot to add six parking spaces.Manchester-based Michael Pellis Architecture is designing the expansion. No contractor is listed.
Bui, well-known in the local beer scene, opened Mekong with his family in 1995. The Answer opened in 2014, the same year he purchased Commercial Taphouse in the Fan.
