The curtains have drawn to a close on a River Road retailer.

Country Curtains has closed at 6239 River Road. The Massachusetts-based company announced in October it would be shuttering all of its stores and liquidating its inventory.

The brand had 19 stores throughout the Mid-Atlantic, New England and Mid-West. The River Road location was its only in Virginia. Its final day in operation was Dec. 21.

In a letter on the company’s website, chairwoman Nancy Fitzpatrick, whose parents founded Country Curtains over 60 years ago, pointed to struggles in keeping up with the changing retail landscape as its reason for closing.

“The truth is Country Curtains is simply no longer able to operate in a way that is financially sustainable,” Fitzpatrick wrote.

No replacement tenant has been announced for the location. Leasing at River Road Shopping Center is handled by Cushman & Wakefield | Thalhimer.

Country Curtains’ Richmond neighbor, triathlete shop 3Sports, shuttered its location at 6241 River Road in May and consolidated into its West Broad Village location. 3Sports’ former space on River Road is currently home to a holiday pop-up book shop by the Richmond Center for Christian Study.

Shortly before 3Sports closed, the shopping center welcomed a new tenant in Orvis. The clothing and outdoor retailer opened at 6235 River Road.
