The latest styles and trends in homebuilding and design will be on display this month beginning this weekend.
Seventy-three new homes by 30 area builders make up the 67th annual Parade of Homes, the annual fall showcase of the Home Building Association of Richmond.
The free event, which invites visitors to take self-guided tours of homes scattered across metro Richmond, kicks off Saturday and continues every weekend through October. Homes are open from noon to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
New to this year’s event is a people’s choice award, in which visitors can vote for their favorite home via text. Each home will have an entry number that voters can text. The winner will be announced on HBAR’s social media channels when the showcase concludes Oct. 28.
“We hope to engage the public in a more meaningful way this year,” said Danna Markland, CEO of HBAR.
Another difference with this year’s showcase is a greater number of townhomes, which Markland said are rising in popularity.
Where the 2015 Parade of Homes introduced apartments to the mix, this year’s lineup emphasizes townhomes such as those at Main Street Homes’ Winterfield Park in Midlothian, StyleCraft Homes’ Townes at Notting Place, also in Chesterfield, and StyleCraft’s Saunders Station Townes in Short Pump.
“It’s really about low-maintenance living,” Markland said. “That is an increasing trend. Also, the open-floor concept still reigns, so that is very popular in this show.”
Homes are located throughout the area, including the city of Richmond and Chesterfield, Hanover, Henrico, King William, New Kent and Powhatan counties. Prices range from the low $200,000s to over $1.1 million.
The event includes awards presented to builders in various categories and price ranges. Winners are selected by out-of-town judges and were slated to be announced at a breakfast event today.
Details about the homes and related activities are available on the event’s website and in the Parade of Homes magazine, available at area Kroger and Wawa locations, and at HBAR’s headquarters at 400 N. Ridge Road in Henrico County.
