After years of transporting materials for clients via ground, ocean or air, a local shipping firm marked its 15th birthday this summer with its own logistical maneuvering, moving its employees and carting furniture into a new headquarters.
Estes Forwarding Worldwide recently relocated to newer, larger digs at 100 Gateway Center Parkway off of Midlothian Turnpike.
A subsidiary of Estes Express Lines, an 87-year-old freight transportation provider, EFW is a domestic and international freight forwarder that coordinates shipping for clients in retail, government, automotive, health services, technology and other industry sectors.
Its new Richmond headquarters brings its 275 local employees into one place for the first time. Jarrett Williams, EFW’s senior vice president of finance and administration, said they had been located primarily at 1100 Commerce Road, with others spread out at company-owned area buildings.
“We’re all operating under one roof now for the first time in a year and a half, and it’s an exciting time,” Williams said.
EFW also has regional offices in North Carolina, Illinois, New York, California, Florida, Georgia, New Jersey and Arizona.
During a celebration of the new office in September, Williams said the company hit $1 billion in lifetime revenue as of November 2017.
“In the same month, we surpassed a three-year goal of $150 million in a single year and we also hit the billion dollars of lifetime revenue,” Williams said.
September’s celebration also highlighted some of the company’s family aspects of the past 15 years. The company not only is family-owned, but also, new families have been formed as several now-married couples met at the business, including Williams and his wife. He referred to the couples as “Estes Sweethearts.”
