The pandemic continues to force restaurant closures around the region, but one industry veteran is bucking the trend with a new eatery in Henrico.
Bachitar Singh last month opened Junoon Indian Restaurant at 7801 W. Broad St. inside Olde Towne Shopping Center. Previously, the space was home to Kabab Bistro.

Singh has 20 years of kitchen experience, and was previously a partner at an Indian restaurant within the city limits. He declined to name the restaurant.
He said he hopes to leverage his restaurant’s location on a busy stretch of Broad Street and the immediate area’s sizable Indian population to succeed in the venture. He has invested about $200,000 in the restaurant and has four employees.
The 4,000-square-foot restaurant has seating for 80 to 90 people, the owner said.
Entrees run $13 to $18. The restaurant offers vegetarian options, Tandoori breads and specialties, among other items.
The Old Towne Shopping Center also features a Buffalo Wild Wings and Tasty Crab seafood restaurant. The center’s anchor tenant, Stein Mart, is in the process of permanently closing as a result of economic disruptions caused by the coronavirus.
