530-acre industrial zoning in Varina back on Henrico agenda

Henrico supervisors meet in regular session Tuesday at 7 p.m. Full agenda here.

Business includes a previously deferred request from Atlantic Crossing LLC to rezone 530 acres southeast of the Interstate 64-295 interchange in Varina for an industrial development. The request was deferred in March and again in May. The LLC is a group that includes Hillwood Development, the Texas-based firm that’s developing Amazon’s robotics fulfillment center near Richmond Raceway.

Also back on the agenda is a rezoning request from Markel | Eagle for an 80-home subdivision on 46 acres southwest of Pouncey Tract Road and Wyndham West Drive. The request was deferred in May.

Westwood-area apartment building on Henrico planning agenda

The Henrico County Planning Commission meets Thursday at 7 p.m. Full agenda here.

On the agenda is a request from Fulton Hill Properties to permit a seven-story building with 253 apartments at the intersection of Thalbro and Westmoreland streets, on land recently subdivided from the adjacent UTurn sports complex.

Pemberton Investments LLC seeks to rezone 12 acres straddling John Rolfe Parkway at its intersection with Pump Road for a 15-home residential development. The request was deferred at the commission’s previous meeting.

HHHunt seeks to rezone 7 acres on the east side of Pouncey Tract Road north of Twin Hickory Lake Drive for a 65-unit condo development. The development would be a second phase of HHHunt’s recently approved The Pointe condos project nearby.

Chesterfield to hold meeting on land-use plan for area around Sportsplex

Chesterfield County officials will hold a public meeting on the roadmap for future development around River City Sportsplex Tuesday.

Chesterfield staff has pulled together draft recommendations for the Gentio/288 Special Focus Area Plan, a 437-acre area near Powhite Parkway’s interchange with Route 288 in the western part of the county.

The Southside Speedway site is also included in the land-use plan, which is intended to guide development in the area to bolster the Sportsplex. The county is planning a $48 million expansion project at the Sportsplex. The county acquired the shuttered race track last year.

Clover Hill District Supervisor Chris Winslow and Planning Commissioner Gloria Freye will co-host the community meeting, where people can learn about the plan and provide their input, according to a county news release.

The open-house format meeting will be held 4:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Clover Hill High School, which is at 13301 Kelly Green Lane.

Carroll sworn in as interim Midlothian supervisor

Tara Carroll was sworn in as the interim representative for the Midlothian District on the Chesterfield County Board of Supervisors late last month.

She takes over from former Supervisor Leslie Haley, who left the board to pursue a leadership role with the Office of the Attorney General.

Carroll is a former chairwoman of the Chesterfield County Republican Committee. Carroll is a professional actor and singer, and she has a musical theater degree from the University of Miami.

She will serve on the board until a permanent successor to Haley can be elected. The winner of a special election scheduled for Nov. 8 will serve the remainder of Haley’s term.

The county said that the Board of Supervisors received eight applications for the interim post.

The interim Midlothian representative has no relation to Matoaca District Supervisor Kevin Carroll, a county spokeswoman said.

Chesterfield supervisors OK new housing developments

The Chesterfield Board of Supervisors voted on June 29 to approve a proposed project by Caldwell Reese Enterprises and Partners Investment Group to build a residential development of up to 234 units on 13 acres on Route 1 on a site north of its intersection with West Hundred Road.

The stage is now set for construction of the development, is planned to have 10 two-story carriage homes and two four-story apartment buildings, per a staff report.

The supervisors also gave the green light for construction of a 105-home subdivision near Cosby High School. Millwood Investment Co. intends to build a mix of single-family detached homes and duplexes on a 25-acre site at 15100 Millwood School Lane and 14601 Fox Club Parkway.

Hanover to hold workshops on comprehensive plan update

Hanover County recently announced it will hold two public workshops in the coming weeks as part of its update to its comprehensive plan, which provides guidelines for future growth and development.

The so-called interactive workshops will feature activities that will allow attendees to discuss future land uses in the county, according to a Hanover news release.

The workshops will be held from 5:30-7 p.m. July 28 at Montpelier Center for Arts and Education (17205 Mountain Road) and 5:30-7 p.m. Aug. 3 at Atlee Branch Library (9212 Rutlandshire Drive).

The county encourages pre-registration for the events, which can be completed at envisionhanover.com and by calling 804-365-6171.

Final adoption of the updated comprehensive plan by the Board of Supervisors is expected in summer 2023.

Meeting Thursday on Goochland’s Centerville Village Plan

Goochland County will hold a meeting July 14 to receive community input for the Centerville Village Plan. The 7 p.m. meeting will take place at Grace Chinese Baptist Church, 850 Broad Street Road.

The meeting will include a short presentation of the initial draft concept of the plan. Interactive polling will also be conducted during the meeting. Attendees are asked to bring a smart phone or tablet to participate. The meeting also can be streamed via Zoom via this link.
