A new-to-market lighting retailer is about to flip the switch on a Richmond expansion.

Circa Lighting plans to open a new showroom this fall at 3125 W. Broad St., across from Scott’s Addition. Circa Lighting’s space is more than 6,000 square feet and was formerly occupied by Cashwell Appliance Parts Plus.

Circa Lighting sells light fixtures, lamps and fans among other items. It carries Visual Comfort & Co. brands such as Tech Lighting and Monte Carlo.

The showroom will be open to both retail customers and professional buyers, company spokeswoman Jennifer Sturdivant said in an email.

It is the company’s first outpost in Virginia and comes amid an expansion push. The company has about 30 showrooms with roughly a half-dozen more on the way including the Richmond one, according to its website. The company spokeswoman said there aren’t immediate plans for additional showrooms in the Richmond area.

Circa Lighting’s showrooms feature architectural lighting labs to demo different types of lighting setups as well as workspaces, Sturdivant said.

“The lab allows customers to experience architectural lighting in real life applications and provides tools that aid in the design and decision making. There are workspaces and seating areas to ensure clients are comfortable,” she said.

The store is expected to have a handful of employees.

Another out-of-town retailer recently added a showroom in Richmond. Architessa, which sells residential and commercial stone and tile products, porcelain slabs and wood and vinyl flooring, opened shop in Shockoe Bottom earlier this year.
