The ongoing transformation of the city’s riverfront was the topic du jour Wednesday morning in the latest installment of Richmond BizSense’s Future Of panel discussion series.
A crowd of more than 350 filled the Foundry at Tredegar to hear the Future of the Riverfront, featuring a slate of panelists consisting of:
Kevin Vonck, director of planning and development review for the City of Richmond
Nadia O’Dea, senior director of corporate real estate and facilities at CoStar Group
Ken MacDonald, president of IMGoing Events and Starr Hill Presents
Lisa Sims, CEO of Venture Richmond
Jason Vickers-Smith, principal at WVS Cos.
Key points of the discussion included CoStar Group’s massive office complex that’s under construction at 600 Tredegar St., the Richmond Amphitheater proposed on the neighboring Tredegar hillside, as well as ongoing development, conservation and urban planning efforts in the works along the stretch of the river spanning from Rocketts Landing to the Lee Bridge.

How about slides of the projects featured instead of just a bunch of shiny happy people?
So 350 white people are deciding the future of the Richmond Riverfront, in a city that is 55% NOT white?
What saved the riverfront in Richmond was 40 years of neglect and a decreasing population during the 1960s through 2000. No one wanted to invest in Richmond, so developers left it alone and today we have a treasured natural resource worth more than any late 20th century office building that might have been slapped up. Please continue to allow nature to own our riverfront, and only allow in the most discerning developers who have nature and preservation as their main goals.
