One of the earlier arrivals to the region’s craft beer boom has poured its last pint.
Rock Bottom Restaurant & Brewery has closed its Richmond-area location in Short Pump Town Center at 11800 W. Broad St.
The Denver, Colorado-based brewpub had occupied 8,500 square feet on the mall’s second floor since 2014. Rock Bottom’s last day of service was June 4, according to a spokesperson for mall owner Brookfield Properties.
Rock Bottom is a chain owned by the Texas-based restaurant conglomerate SPB Hospitality. SPB spokespeople weren’t available for comment by press time.
The brewpub’s furniture has been collected and fencing is blocking off its front door in the mall.
Rock Bottom was the only one of SPB’s brands that had a presence in Richmond. The company’s other holdings include Logan’s Roadhouse, Old Chicago Pizza + Taproom and Seven Bridges Grille & Brewery.
The Short Pump closure looks to be one of many for Rock Bottom in recent years. Since opening in Richmond, the number of Rock Bottom locations has shrunk from 38 to 13. The brand is no longer anywhere in Virginia, since its only other location in the commonwealth closed in Arlington in 2016, according to local reports.
Rock Bottom joins Canon & Draw Brewing Co. in the Fan and Molly’s Blind Dog Brewery in Chester as local breweries to close within the past year.
As Rock Bottom packs its bags, Short Pump Town Center is anticipating a new tenant to arrive: men’s clothier Psycho Bunny.

What a shame. They had a good vibe – maybe it was too casual for the Short Pump area. It reminded me of a Fan bar sans the filthy Fan bathrooms.
Possible. Although, I’d imagine it’s due to an over saturation of breweries. People don’t go to a mall to visit a brewery, it didn’t feel that unique, and it’s frustrating to sit in traffic to get to the mall due to lack of transit options.
Given the fact that they went from 38 to 13 units, it may have been something more than your distaste in Fan bathrooms that drove their decision.
My wife and I were frequent guests up until a couple of years ago. It seemed that everything on the menu that we liked had been removed. We found another spot and didn’t go back
The few times I had been there, I thought it was pretty good. I will comment and say that it did seem to be declining in quality in recent years both food and staff. The beer was still pretty good. I look forward to seeing what takes its place as it’s a pretty unique and great spot
I don’t know that I’d call Rock Bottom a local brewery…
That stinks. The beer was decent, the staff was always pleasant and it was a nice chill place to hang out and enjoy one while waiting for the rest of your family to finish shopping. But post-Covid it never seemed to have very many customers inside.
