Organic Krush, a New York-based chain of organic restaurants, has permanently shuttered its location in Short Pump.
Its storefront at 3406 Pump Road in the Short Pump Crossing shopping center closed in recent days after four years in business.
Founded in 2015 by University of Richmond alumnae Michell Walrath, Organic Krush opened the Short Pump outpost in July 2019, as the company’s first location in Virginia.
Requests for comment to Walrath and the company’s email address went unanswered last week.
A sign in the door of the Short Pump store says: “We made the difficult decision to close our Short Pump, VA location. To all our customers, we want to thank you for welcoming us to the community and supporting the organic movement.”
The chain has a location on the UR campus that opened in 2021 and was still operating as of Friday. It also operates six others locations, all of which are in New York and remain open for business, according to its website.
The restaurants serve acai bowls, smoothies, baked goods, cold-pressed juices and wraps among other offerings with gluten-free, dairy-free and vegan options.
Organic Krush operated a short-lived location in Charlottesville that opened in July 2022 but has since closed, according the location’s answering machine.

This simply wasn’t the right location for this type of business. It’s on the Three Chopt side of the center. The more successful food operators tend to be near Broad Street, where the traffic is far greater. Having said this this is an excellent shopping center, and the space is quite leasable for the right user.
Agreed – very good food whenever I have been there after bringing clothes to the cleaners. But as the old adage goes Location, location, location…
I will miss this place, but unfortunately, it was not the best location being off of the beaten path… Sad to see it go!
