A new-to-market grocery store is coming to Henrico’s West End.

Triveni Supermarket, a Charlotte, North Carolina-based based chain of Indian markets, is looking to open in the former David’s Bridal building at 9101 W. Broad St., according to county planning documents.

The stores sell halal meat, produce, dry goods and more. Its locations also include a bakery, food court and catering operations, according to its website.

Triveni did not respond to requests for comment by press time. Planning documents filed in Henrico in recent weeks simply state that Triveni is looking to renovate the former bridal gown store into a grocery store.

The 14,000-square-foot space has been vacant since late 2022 when David’s moved out in favor of a new store in Short Pump. The stand-alone building was sold in December for $2.4 million to an entity tied to Charlotte-based tech firm Lorven Group Inc., according to Henrico property records.

Triveni has five stores across North Carolina and Texas and is looking to nearly double its footprint, according to its website. The Richmond store is one of four new locations Triveni has in the works; the others are in Houston, Texas; Northern Virginia; and South Carolina.

Work is underway on the planned Lotte Plaza Market a few miles east on Broad Street.

Triveni is the second new-to-market supermarket to hop onto West Broad Street in the last year. Lotte Plaza Market, a Maryland-based grocer that specializes in Korean and Asian foods, leased a 45,000-square-foot space at 7801 W. Broad St.

Though the Lotte Plaza store has yet to open, a “coming soon” sign has gone up in recent months and work on the interior is underway.

Lotte Plaza Market also did not respond to requests for comment by press time.

Such a short distance from the Royal Bazaar across Broad Street and at the end of Tuckernuck. I will be interested to see how they compete with each other, and Laxmi Palace down the road on the corner of Broad and N. Parham.

Don’t for get New Grand Market also has its West End location in the general area too. In fact it is just across Tuckernuck from the closed David’s Bridal.
