The local rise of Nothing Bundt Cakes continues with a new location planned for Chesterfield County.
The chain has a bakery in the works at 11419 Midlothian Turnpike near Chesterfield Towne Center.
It would be the chain’s third outpost in the region and first to open in Chesterfield, following locations in Short Pump and Carytown that have opened in the last couple years. Nothing Bundt Cakes is a Texas-based chain of bakeries that sell bundt cakes in different sizes, styles and flavors.
Behind the upcoming Chesterfield location is local franchisees Daniel Delgado, Gina and Doug Brown, and Lisa and Leo LaPointe.
It’s the same team that operates the Nothing Bundt Cakes at 11845 W. Broad St. in the Corner at Short Pump shopping center. That was the group’s first Richmond-area location, which opened in 2021. Earlier this year, they opened another Nothing Bundt Cakes at the Carytown Exchange development in the city.
Signage for the 2,000-square-foot location was up and work was underway as of late last week. A company spokeswoman said an opening date hadn’t been set yet, but that the location was expected to “be opening in a few weeks.”
The upcoming Chesterfield location occupies a space in Towne Plaza shopping center that was formerly home to Smoothie King. Other tenants in the center include Mattress Warehouse, frozen yogurt shop Sweet Frog and Jersey Mike’s Subs.
Nothing Bundt Cakes, which was founded in 1997, calls itself the largest specialty cake company in the country, with more than 525 franchised and corporate locations in more than 40 states as well as in Canada as of October.
The bakery will join other new arrivals to that section of Chesterfield, as retailers Burlington and Popshelf have new stores planned for the nearby Towne Crossing shopping center.
