It’s been nearly a decade since a bank operated on the grounds of Regency mall. That may soon change thanks to plans filed recently by a banking giant.
Chase Bank, a national bank that’s been on a Richmond-area branch building streak over the last several years, is eyeing an outpost on an outparcel in front of the ever-evolving western Henrico mall.
A conceptual plan filed with Henrico County shows the Chase branch would rise on a plot fronting Quioccasin Road near the intersection of Starling Drive.
The plans call for a 3,300-square-foot, 1-story branch with drive-thru ATM that would sit between the Valvoline Instant Oil Change and the three-suite strip center that houses Chipotle, Mod Pizza and a nail salon.
Chase Bank declined to comment about the proposed branch when reached last week.
Regency co-owners Thalhimer Realty Partners and Rebkee deferred comment to Chase.
The conceptual plan was drawn up by Development Services Group out of Chesapeake.
A rendering included in the plans show the branch would look similar to the Chase location near Willow Lawn.
The location would mark a return of banking to Regency for the first time since 2015. That’s when a longtime Bank of America branch outside the mall went dark as part of the early stages of Rebkee and TRP’s reinvention of Regency’s overall grounds.
The Regency branch would add to nearly a dozen branches opened in the region by Chase since it expanded here five years ago. Its 12th local branch is in the works on Iron Bridge Road in Chesterfield.
Another of Chase’s large competitors, Pennyslvania-based First National Bank, has its first Richmond-region location in the works at the redeveloped Willow Place shopping center in Henrico. FNB earlier this month received regulatory approval from the state to open the branch, which will be built from scratch at 5514 W. Broad St.
