Less than a year after its debut, a new local commercial real estate brokerage is tracking into Hokie territory.
Range Commercial Partners, which was launched in Richmond last fall by a group of industry veterans from Colliers International, recently opened a new office in Blacksburg, Virginia.
The nine-month-old firm is led by executive managing directors Todd Willett and David Wilkins, along with cofounder Joe Marchetti Jr. Four others came with them from Colliers to start the company last October.
Range has since grown to a staff of around 50 and a management portfolio of 12.4 million square feet of office, industrial, retail and mixed-use properties in Virginia. Its offerings range from sales and leasing to property and asset management.
Willett and Wilkins said a client with a significant presence in Southwest Virginia helped lead them to Blacksburg.
“The market’s bigger than you’d think when you get into it, especially when you look at office, retail and industrial,” Willett said of the Blacksburg region. “When we started hearing from clients and what they were looking for, it certainly was a need…We felt very strongly that we can take the capabilities we have at Range and hire local people to be there.”
Range leased a small office in Blacksburg at 314 Turner St. NW, within eyeshot of Virginia Tech’s campus.
Willett said so far they’ve hired four people to run the new outpost, continuing a rapid hiring clip of nearly five new employees per month since launching last fall. Willett said there’s been a few reasons for their success in growing the team.
“A lot of it is the portfolios and properties and assignments that we’re taking on from both the property management and leasing side. But it’s also been about finding good people that are talented in this profession and giving them opportunities,” Willett said.
Blacksburg isn’t likely to be Range’s last stop within the commonwealth. Willett and Wilkins said they’d like to establish offices in Charlottesville, Hampton Roads and in the Fredericksburg-Northern Virginia areas.
“Our goal has always been to grow geographically,” Wilkins said. “We’ll follow clients outside the state as well.”
Range’s headquarters totals around 8,000 square feet at 4235 Innslake Dr. in Innsbrook.
One of its recent deals was the nearly $6 million sale of the Patriot Tower office building in Chesterfield to local investor Gagan Marwaha.
Other movement within the local real estate brokerage scene includes Newmark’s recent lease to open its first local office in Scott’s Addition, and One South Commercial’s purchase of the Park Place office building in the Museum District for its new headquarters.

Range Commercial has laid its future on the stability of its commercial management account portfolio, a much more endurable asset than the up and downs of commercial brokerage. They’re building that portfolio wisely.
Congratulations to Range Commercial!
