OrthoVirginia is closing its locations at the Bon Secours St. Francis Medical Center and HCA Johnston-Willis Hospital campuses and reopening them in a newly built facility outside Westchester Commons.

The new location is a 77,000-square-foot, two-story building at 15300 East West Road in western Chesterfield. The orthopedics provider plans to open the new facility, called OrthoVirginia Westchester, on Monday.

The St. Francis office is scheduled to close today ahead of the relocation. The Johnston-Willis office is slated to close Sept. 16, and then will begin operation at the Westchester location.

In addition to surgery and diagnostic imaging, the Westchester facility will provide physical and occupational therapies and other services. It has nearly 100 exam rooms, four surgical suites, MRI and X-ray equipment and two suites dedicated to pain management.

Consolidation of the St. Francis and Johnston-Willis offices will offer all its services and care for patients in that part of Chesterfield under one roof, an OrthoVirginia spokeswoman said in a prepared statement.

Once the new location is fully operational, OrthoVirginia expects to have more than 120 employees there, said Will Clinton, the medical practice’s executive director for the company’s central and east regions. OrthoVirginia will be the lone tenant in the building.

The new facility is a joint venture between general contractor Hourigan, development firm Lingerfelt and OrthoVirginia. OrthoVirginia is the majority owner of the Westchester facility. The joint venture bought the 8.5-acre project site for $2.7 million in March of last year, online county records show.

Architecture firm PSH+ designed the building.

The three firms have worked together on previous projects. They teamed up for OrthoVirginia’s location in the Boulders business park more than a decade ago. Lingerfelt developed OrthoVirginia’s Mechanicsville medical office building that’s next to Bon Secours Memorial Regional Medical Center. PSH+ handled the design work for both of those projects, as well.

OrthoVirginia declined to comment on the final cost of construction for the Westchester outpost. When the project was announced in the spring of 2023, it was anticipated to cost $50 million. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is planned for Sept. 17.

The company leases its Johnston-Willis office at 1400 Johnston-Willis Drive in Bon Air and the St. Francis location at 13801 St. Francis Blvd. near Brandermill.

Its Ortho On Call urgent-care clinic at 15564 Westchester Commons Way, which is near the Westchester facility, will remain open.

Billed as Virginia’s largest orthopedics provider, OrthoVirginia has nearly 160 physicians and more than 35 locations throughout the state.
