A nearly decade-old local jewelry company has taken a shine to a Scott’s Addition spot on Broad Street for its new location in the city.

Nine Roses Jewelers opened last month in an 800-square-foot space in the Highpoint Building at 3300 W. Broad St.

The spot on the edge of Scott’s Addition is home to the Nine Roses headquarters and a by-appointment showroom, and is where the company handles its client-facing operations including consultations. The custom jewelry it sells is made at a New York-based production studio.

“We really want to give someone a private experience where they feel like they’re getting the full attention of the team,” Nick DeRosa, who co-owns the business with wife Eliza, said of the new location. “It’s a lot of trying to educate them about the process and taking their reference and creating something that works.”

Nine Roses sells bridal and engagement rings as well as other types of jewelry. Custom engagement rings start at $3,500, the company’s website reports.

The location in the Highpoint Building is the third place Nine Roses has called home. Its most recent space was at 501 S. 14th St. on Mayo Island, where it had operated since 2020.

DeRosa said Nine Roses moved from a commercial building on Mayo Island because the structure is due to be demolished, following the city’s acquisition of it and most of the island in the James River nearly a year ago.

Nine Roses’ original storefront opened at 19 N. Belmont Ave. in the Museum District in 2015. At the time, Nine Roses operated a retail store that primarily sold items sourced from third-parties as well as pieces made by DeRosa. The company switched to the New York production team when it relocated to Mayo Island to keep up with demand.

Nine Roses has a three-person team in Richmond and four jewelers in New York. The company’s local office is located in suite 201 of the Highpoint Building. The building that features a mural of Bernie Sanders was purchased in late 2022 by Realtor group Reynolds EmpowerHome.
