A Charlotte-based steakhouse chain is doubling down in Chesterfield.
Firebirds Wood Fired Grill is planning to open a restaurant at 15700 Hull Street Road in the Cosby Village Square shopping center this fall, according to company spokeswoman Eleni Gates.
The restaurant would occupy a new-construction, 5,300-square-foot building to be built at the shopping center near Woodlake. It’s planned to have a patio and seating for 230 people.
Construction is expected to kick off by the end of March, Gates said. A general contractor hasn’t been selected for the project yet.
Gates declined to comment on the project cost. A building permit filed with the county estimated a construction cost of $1.5 million.
The restaurant will rise on what’s currently a vacant parcel next to a Chipotle.
The location would be the third Firebirds in the Richmond region and the second to open in Chesterfield. The steakhouse chain has an outpost near the intersection of Huguenot and Robious roads in the Midlothian area of the county as well as a location in Short Pump Town Center in western Henrico.
Firebirds has more than 60 U.S. locations and in 2025 plans to open five more, including the new Chesterfield location. The North Carolina-based restaurant describes itself as a “polished casual” eatery, and its menu features steak and seafood entrees, among other items. Firebirds serves lunch and dinner as well as brunch on the weekends.
Firebirds prepares to start construction at Cosby Village Square amid other activity at the commercial center, which is taking shape on Hull Street Road as part of the larger Cosby Village mixed-use development.
A Starbucks recently opened at the center, following the summer opening of ice cream shop Kline’s Dairy Bar. Panda Express envisions a new location there and late last year bought a parcel at the center from Main Street Homes, which is developing the project.
Last month, Thalhimer announced the $2 million sale of a 1.8-acre parcel by the developer to an entity tied to local plastic surgeon Neil Zemmel. The brokerage’s announcement stated that Zemmel intends to build a medical office on the property.
Just what that stretch needs, another chain restaurant. Curious why no local independents have given that area a try. The new Latitudes is the closest to it (a chain, but at least local) and they are doing very well by all accounts. I guess the city restaurateurs don’t want to stretch out to the county.
