A neighborhood market concept has unveiled its new Midlothian outpost, nearly three years after it established itself in western Henrico.

Supper Club opened last week in a 3,800-square-foot space at 1428 Ewing Park Loop in the mixed-use development called The Promenade at Winterfield, co-founder Carlisle Bannister said.

The new location features a made-to-order deli counter where customers can buy sandwiches, which is a new offering not available at its original location in the Tuckahoe Shopping Center. The Midlothian spot also has a larger selection of beer and wine. Both markets feature prepared meals, butcher-cut meats, baked goods and seafood products.

“You’re going to see all the same prepared items, our butcher counter, fresh seafood, all the local gourmet items and in addition to that we also are featuring a really nice deli,” Bannister said.

The deli menu features specialty sandwiches named after classic movies. In the first few days of business, the Smokey and the Bandit – a barbecue sandwich with pimento cheese and pickles on a toasted panini roll – has proven one of the most popular. Sandwiches run about $9 to $11.

The Midlothian market also features Supper Club’s fried chicken, which Bannister said has been one of the company’s more popular offerings. Bannister said that after news circulated about his initial plans to not offer fried chicken at the Midlothian location, he reversed course after hearing feedback from customers.

“All the comments on social media were like, ‘Oh man, I wish they would do the fried chicken. We want the fried chicken.” Bannister said. “I was like, ‘You know what? I’m going to do the fried chicken.’”

Bannister said the company wanted to expand to the Midlothian area of Chesterfield because it had developed a following there and felt the demographics were similar to the customer base at the original Supper Club, which opened in May 2022 at 417 N. Ridge Road.

While it’s just been a few days since the Midlothian spot opened, Bannister said their bet seemed to already be paying off.

“We’re thrilled with the turnout. We’re seeing so many folks from the community and the surrounding neighborhoods come in,” Bannister said. “We knew there was a need for a local market option like us in this area.”

The store is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Bannister co-founded Supper Club with wife Christy Dobrucky, who owns the business. Bannister is a former chef at Upper Shirley Vineyards.

The Promenade at Winterfield, where Supper Club recently opened, is near the Winterfield Crossing development and across the street from the Publix-anchored Charter Colony Shopping Center. Other tenants at the Promenade include Phenix Salon Suites and Paint Nail Bar.
