A local contracting company is now owned by an industry giant out of the Lone Star State.

Chesterfield-based Atlantic Constructors Inc. was acquired last week by Houston-based construction conglomerate TriplePoint MEP for an undisclosed amount.

ACI is a construction contractor that provides materials for and installs mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection systems. It’s worked on some visible developments in the Richmond region, including Stone Brewing’s Richmond facility, VCU Health’s Children’s Hospital and the Virginia State Capitol building.

It’s now under the umbrella of TriplePoint, which describes itself as one of the largest mechanical construction firms in the country, doing around $1 billion of annual revenue.

ACI CEO Evan Shriver said the company decided to sell to set it up for “long-term success in a good, stable ownership group.”

“The main reasons we chose TriplePoint were that we have similar goals and similar core values, concentrating on safety and strong employee engagement, which really resonated with us,” Shriver said. “It felt like it was really what was best for the company and our employees.”

Shriver said he doesn’t anticipate many major changes for the company or its roughly 1,200 employees following the deal and the ACI name will be retained.

In addition to its branding, ACI also held onto its real estate, which includes its Chesterfield headquarters at 1401 Battery Brooke Parkway. It also has offices in Roanoke, Suffolk and Sterling, Virginia, and Wilmington, North Carolina.

Shriver said two of the larger projects ACI is currently working on are the Lego manufacturing plant in Chesterfield and the expansion of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel.
