A Richmond-based telemarketing group, Media Synergy, has been ordered to stop making “robo calls” to the state of North Carolina.
Judge Donald Stephens of Wake County Superior Court made the order after receiving a complaint from N.C. Attorney General Roy Cooper.
Media Synergy allegedly left messages on people’s answering machines offering airline tickets, gas cards and NASCAR tickets if they called back.
Cooper received complaints from consumers who are listed on the “Do Not Call” registry.
From the Triad Business Journal:
Consumers told the attorney general’s office that Media Synergy left messages suggesting they had won prizes and instructing them to call back for more information. One consumer told the attorney general’s office that after calling the company to stop the calls, the telemarketer refused and said returning the call was an invitation to do business and keep calling him.
It is a violation of North Carolina law to deliver a prerecorded sales pitch without first introducing it with a live caller.
