Richmond’s suburbs appear to have no problem finding the beef, as yet another West Coast-based burger chain is firing up in the region.
California-based Burgerim is opening its first Richmond-area location in the Publix-anchored Nuckols Place retail development at 5400 Wyndham Forest Drive in Henrico County.
The burger chain will take up about 2,100 square feet at an end of a retail strip that houses MOD Pizza, Club Pilates and Luminous Nail & Spa.
Alicia Brown and Connie Jordan Nielsen, brokers with Cushman & Wakefield | Thalhimer, handled lease negotiations for Burgerim and the landlord.
Burgerim, which translates to “many burgers” in Hebrew, was launched in Tel Aviv, Israel in 2011. Burgerim since has grown to more than 45 locations nationwide, mostly in California, Texas, New York and Florida.
The chain emphasizes that it sells miniburgers, not sliders, which are made with 2.8-ounce patties — meat that is slightly larger than a typical slider, according to its website.
Patrons can customize their miniburgers with 10 types of patties, including beef, Wagyu and lamb, as well as with whole wheat, gluten-free or sesame seed brioche-like buns and toppings, such as grilled onions, avocado, bacon and pineapple.
The minimum order is a two-pack of burgers, and patrons can order as many as 16 burgers at once. Burgerim also serves specialty burgers like its Cowboy Burger, made with cheddar cheese, bacon, an onion ring and barbecue sauce.
Beyond beef, Burgerim’s menu also includes chicken wings, salads, fish and meat-free options such as falafel.
An opening date for the restaurant has not been announced. Burgerim could not be reached for comment Friday.
The chain operates four locations in Virginia, in Arlington, Haymarket, Brambleton and Harrisonburg, according to its website. Outside of Richmond, Burgerim is preparing to open in Manassas, Ashburn, Falls Church and Fredericksburg.
Burgerim enters the market as another burger chain, Habit Burger, is readying its first Richmond-area location in a 5,700-square-foot shopping center under construction at 11309 Midlothian Turnpike in Chesterfield County.
Habit Burger had planned to open a restaurant at West Broad Marketplace in Short Pump, but pulled out of the location.
