A 10-year-old house overlooking the James River claimed the top residential real estate transaction in the Richmond area last month.

The 6,700-square-foot, Tuscan-style house at 3822 W. Old Gun Road in Chesterfield County sold Aug. 12 for $2.08 million, below its May 16 list price of $2.15 million.

The latest county assessment valued the 3-acre property at $1.51 million, according to Chesterfield property records, which list the buyers as D.M. Randolph Sr. and J.D. Randolph. The sellers were David and Kathleen Miller, who purchased the land in 2002 for $600,000, records show.

Arches are abundant in the Tuscan-design house.

Jamie Younger with Virginia Properties Long & Foster had the listing and worked both sides of the deal. She said both parties requested privacy.

Younger said the property received interest from multiple parties before it was put under contract July 12.

“That was a pretty fast sale for that size property,” Younger said. “The property has phenomenal views of the James River from almost every room in the house. It’s an unusual property with a lot of arches, has an Italian flair.”

Built in 2009, the two-story house totals four bedrooms and 5½ bathrooms. It includes a first-floor master suite, walkout basement with brick wine cellar, and a generator. A detached three-car garage includes an upstairs studio with bedroom and bath, and a barn on site can accommodate horses.

Younger’s listing said a portion of the land is on the Virginia Landmarks Register. She said that land makes up part of the Bellona Arsenal property, which housed a 19th century U.S. Army arsenal. The site also is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The property is on a stretch of Old Gun Road that’s seen at least one other seven-figure home sale of late. Just up the street, a 5,500-square-foot house at 4101 E. Old Gun Road sold for $1.3 million in November.

Rounding out the top five home sales in August were these, according to the Central Virginia Regional Multiple Listing Service:

Nine figures? Does that mean at least $100 million? Or would a sale that was 99 cents be a two-figure sale?
