With the completion of a project three years in the making, a Nebraska-based retirement-home operator has formally planted its flag in Goochland County.
Tuckahoe Pines, a 55-and-up retirement community owned and operated by Resort Lifestyle Communities, opened in September at 12330 Patterson Ave. in Goochland, just west of the Henrico County line.
The 128,000-square-foot retirement home cost more than $30 million to build, a figure that includes land acquisition tied to the project, company spokeswoman Kelly Jo Hinrichs said. The 130-unit complex is close to 50 percent occupancy.
Resort Lifestyles Communities bought the 39-acre site for $2.9 million in 2018.
Tuckahoe Pines, which is an independent living community, has studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom units. Monthly rental rates range from $3,500 for a studio to $5,500 for a three-bedroom unit. Amenities include a dining program, housekeeping, utilities and a fitness center.
Cameron General Contractors, an affiliate of Resort Lifestyle Communities, built the project.
Tuckahoe Pines plans to hold a ribbon-cutting event Nov. 18.
Tuckahoe Pines is the first Resort Lifestyles Communities retirement community to open in Virginia. Hinrichs declined to comment on what, if any, additional projects the company might look to build in Virginia.
The company has about 60 active or upcoming properties in more than 25 states, according to its website.

My father-in-law is one of the first residents of this top-notch facility in the Richmond metro area. I would hope they do another project somewhere else in Central Virginia because these type of senior living facilities are very needed…especially ones done as well as this company does them. I would recommend highly!
