Two brands with the same parent company have made their local debut in Short Pump as next-door neighbors.

Outdoor gear supplier Sierra and furniture and furnishings store Homesense have both recently opened in Short Pump Crossing shopping center, where they have divvied up a big box formerly occupied by Stein Mart.

Both concepts, which opened last week, are off-price retailers that are owned by TJX Cos. That company also counts T.J.Maxx, Marshalls and HomeGoods among its portfolio.

The 18,500-square-foot Sierra store at 3536 Pump Road is the brand’s fourth in Virginia and first in the Richmond area. The chain carries outdoor and sports apparel, equipment, shoes, camping gear and similar items.

Sierra was formerly known as Sierra Trading Post. The company has nearly 70 locations in the United States and opened its first store in 1986. A company spokeswoman said Sierra doesn’t currently have plans for more locations in the Richmond region.

Homesense sells furniture, home goods, decor and lighting.

Homesense is at 3538 Pump Road and occupies a 25,000-square-foot space. The store sells furniture, rugs, lamps and kitchen items.

The new Homesense in Short Pump is the fourth store in Virginia and the first in the Richmond area. It hasn’t yet announced further expansion in the Richmond area. A fifth Homesense in Virginia is scheduled to open in mid-November in Newport News, according to the company’s website.

The company lists 45 locations that are open or scheduled to open soon, per its website.

Stein Mart vacated the Short Pump Crossing location amid the chain’s bankruptcy proceedings in 2020. In addition to splitting it in two, Sierra and Homesense renovated the spaces to add new mezzanines.

Other recent retail action in Short Pump includes the sale of the commercial sections of West Broad Village to Florida-based CTO Realty Growth.
