A Virginia engineer was recently sentenced to 37 months for conspiracy to bribe Panamanian officials.
John Warwick of Virginia Beach was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Richmond last week. He also received two years of supervised release and was forced to forfeit $331,000 in proceeds from the crime.
Warwick’s bribe was an attempt to get business for his company, Ports Engineering Consultants Corporation. Until the conviction, Warwick was part of the consulting team of Hurt & Proffitt Inc. of Norfolk as it worked on a regional wastewater project for Northhampton County.
From the article in the Daily Times:
Northampton County Administrator Katie Nunez said she does not expect Warwick’s exit to delay the project, although he was an important source of background knowledge.
“We are saddened to hear what has occurred,” Nunez said. “John was a frequent attendee at project management meetings.”
Wiley “Bif” Johnson, president and chief executive officer of Hurt & Proffitt, is expected to assume all day-to-day work on the project, supported by engineer Brian Cossman, Page Cockrell and Joe Turner, who already were working on the project along with Warwick.
Warwick pled guilty to the charge in February.
