Charter bus touring company Spirit Tours filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Friday.
The Ashland-based business has been operating for 11 years providing charter buses for churches, schools, shopping trips, sporting events, business outings, and family reunions.
The company listed estimated assets of $100,000 to $500,000 and estimated liabilities of $500,000 to $1 million, according to its bankruptcy.
Spirit Tours showed a loss of $29,649 in its 2009 federal tax return and listed 1 to 40 creditors.
Its creditors include American Express Blue, which Spirit owes $24,899. It also owes $10,186 to the Town of Ashland and $1,956 to the Virginia Department of Taxation.
Owners Anthony and Robyn Winston declined to comment.
The company remains open for business. In addition to its charter services, Sprit Tours also provides a commuter service that runs out of Colonial Heights and Chester to Northern Virginia.

It is a shame that this happened. As per the BBB, this company has existed for a little over ten years and has an A+ rating. I hope they are able to turn it around because they deserve to stay in business!
