A 24-hour emergency and specialty vet center is coming to the West End this fall.
“It started with the idea of bringing a neurologist to town, which is not an area of veterinary medicine served here in Central Virginia,” said Jason Taylor, a veterinarian and director of operations for the new center, called Dogwood.
Dogwood’s owners purchased the 22,174-square-foot former S&K store and office at 5918 W. Broad St. for $925,000. The build-out is underway and set for an October opening.
One of the owners of the practice is Bill Bush, a veterinary neurologist with a clinic in Leesburg, Taylor said.
Other services will include cardiology, surgery, dermatology and internal medicine.
“As we progressed and took on more and more information in the community, we decided there was a market for another emergency center,” Taylor said.
Taylor said that Dogwood plans to hire 15 to 20 veterinarians.
