The local post of the Communications Workers of America has lined the sidewalk of its Lakeside office with signs calling out Verizon executives for being part of the maligned “1 percent.”
The 99 percent versus one percent mantra was popularized during Occupy Wall Street and related movements last year.
In August, tens of thousands of Verizon workers went on strike in order to negotiate a new labor contract with the company. Though the strike ended a few weeks later, judging by these signs, the fight isn’t over yet.
Verizon Chairman and CEO Ivan Seidenberg received more than $18.1 million in total compensation in 2010, according to the company’s most recent proxy. The average total compensation paid to the company’s top executives was $7.6 million in 2010.
