The sale of a River Road mansion in September not only helped a local nonprofit raise millions of dollars, it also capped a busy month for $1 million-plus home sales around the region.
Clear View, the 13,000-square-foot home at 5901 River Road built by philanthropists Lora and Claiborne Robins, fetched the highest price for any home sold in the Richmond market in September, according to the Central Virginia Regional Multiple Listing Service (CVRMLS).
Its $3.62 million price tag topped a list of nine homes that sold for $1 million or more last month. Clear View’s nearest rival in price for the month was 1180 Yellow Gate Lane, a 7,900-square-foot home in Goochland County that sold for $1.76 million.
Clear View was purchased by Richard Meier, the CFO of locally-based Owens & Minor, and his wife Tracy Meier. The seller was the Virginia Historical Society, which inherited the 5.5-acre estate upon the death of Lora Robins in 2010.
The VHS listed the property for sale at $4.25 million in April, and the home was under contract barely a month later.
Richard Bower, an agent with Joyner Fine Properties, represented the buyers in the purchase. VHS was represented by The Steele Group Sotheby’s International Realty.
The nine homes in the local market that sold for $1 million or more in September marked an increase from only two $1 million-plus sales in September 2013, according to CVRMLS.
The top five highest priced home sales in the area for September were:
5901 River Road – $3.62 million
1180 Yellow Gate Lane – $1.76 million
4 Tapoan Road – $1.45 million
208 Kinloch Road – $1.25 million
