VMFA unveils Forbidden City exhibit

A touch of the Far East is set to rise in Richmond.

The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts will open its newest exhibit, Forbidden City: Imperial Treasures from the Palace Museum, Beijing on Oct. 18.

The exhibit consists of about 200 pieces from the Palace Museum in China – a former imperial palace that housed 24 emperors between 1420 and 1924.

The VMFA opened the collection for a media preview on Wednesday.

The exhibit runs until Jan. 11 and costs $20 for non-members. Museum members get in free.

The museum expects the exhibit to draw 100,000 visitors.
