A law firm from Steel City has set up shop in downtown Richmond.
Pittsburgh-based Pietragallo Gordon Alfano Bosick & Raspanti opened its first office in Richmond last week at 9 S. 12th St. The firm is leasing a 2,500-square-foot space on the building’s fourth floor.
The new location will be headed by local attorney Ken McArthur, who was previously with locally based DurretteCrump. Managing partner Bill Pietragallo said McArthur was the ultimate reason why the 28-year-old firm chose Richmond for its sixth office.
“We are about talent, not geography,” Pietragallo said. “We’re excited about having a presence in Richmond, but it starts with talent.”
McArthur focuses on cases in health care, complex litigation, business and corporate issues, the firm said. He teaches a pharmaceutical law class at Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of Pharmacy.
The firm hasn’t yet decided how many lawyers and staff will be hired to join McArthur. Pietragallo said it will be recruiting in the area and “we have lawyers already running to our new office.”
“We’re expecting the practice to do well,” he said. “But we haven’t set any definite numbers. We don’t grow for growth’s sake. We grow because our clients want us to. We add lawyers as the needs arise.”
The Pietragallo firm employs 80 lawyers throughout all its offices and represents clients in 35 states. It has three offices in Pennsylvania, one in Ohio and another in West Virginia.
The firm enters the downtown legal market after one firm moved out, another moved up, and several others, including McCandlish Holton and LeClairRyan, opened offices outside the Richmond area.
