After a false start, a national gym chain has found a full-time home in Short Pump.
An Anytime Fitness franchise has signed a lease at 11740 W. Broad St. in the Parc Place shopping center.
Franchise owner Jessica Jenkins had signed a lease in May to put the gym in the Lauderdale Square shopping center a few miles east, but said that deal was voided, without offering specifics.
“We just felt like (the new location) was a higher-trafficked area right in the center of Short Pump,” Jenkins said. “It’s easier to get to.”
The space Anytime was slated to occupy in Lauderdale Square remains vacant.
The gym plans to open in early February, and Jenkins said construction is underway to outfit the space, which hosted Jason’s Deli until it closed in 2016. The national sandwich chain still has local shops in Willow Lawn and Forest Hill.
Anytime Fitness is privately held with over 3,000 locations globally. The new Short Pump location will be its sixth in the Richmond region, with two more planned in Ashland and Mechanicsville.
Its gyms are accessible to members at all hours with a keycard, and are staffed weekdays from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jenkins, a certified personal trainer, will be joined by a staff of four.
Though the gym’s tenancy at Lauderdale Square fell through, the shopping center recently welcomed another new tenant. In September, Lammar Marie’s Gourmet Popcorn opened at 3047 Lauderdale Drive.
