VCU Health said the new 38-bed liver unit is geared toward providing pre- and post-operative care for patients who are receiving liver transplants and comes in response to a nationwide trend of increased liver disease.

The project would appear to be a relocated and enlarged version of the outpatient surgery center and office facility that VCU Health once planned as an anchor to the nearby Courthouse Landing development.

The proposed center would be called the Pauley Heart Center Pavilion and would take on at least part of the former longtime milk-processing facility near The Diamond and next to parts of VCU’s Athletic Village project.

The expansion of the western Henrico hospital would feature the construction of a 200,000-square-foot structure, renovations of existing facilities and other projects on the campus off Monument Avenue.

Newly launched Freedom Recovery Centers’ first location will be a 60-bed residential addiction treatment facility in a 30,000-square-foot building at 300 Gateway Centre Parkway.

Virginia Physicians for Women paid $3.5 million for the 1.7-acre property, where it will build a two-story, 32,000-square-foot medical office to replace its current space on the St. Mary’s campus across the street.
