A golf course in Caroline County is for sale after being open less than 10 years.
Mattaponi Springs Golf Club is shopping itself around to potential buyers.
“It is for sale. We have some interest in it,” said George Logan, a broker with Georgia-based Hilda Allen Real Estate.
Logan would not disclose the price.
He said Washington lawyer and club owner Jim Oliff “reached a point where he did not want to own a golf course.”
“He’s a very successful attorney. But as he is getting older, he would like to settle all questions/issues with his estate,” Logan said.Oliff is a former intellectual property lawyer in the Washington area. One newspaper article said he spent seven years selecting the location for and building the course.
The course was designed by Bob Lohmann and opened in 2005.
The club did not return several calls seeking comment.

These courses better start partnering up and offer a group membership.
Greg… there’s a group of them that have in the past and Mattaponi was part of that group. With the economy what it is, it’s not a good time to own a golf club. Oliff is probably getting out because he doesn’t see that changing anytime soon.
we at Tranzon successfully sold several golf courses to builders/developers for conversion to residential subdivisions– it’s a great use but we aren’t quite back to a boom in new homes yet so that’s not a good option these days. Wait for it… there will be a housing shortage in the near future.
