Two GM dealerships in the Richmond area may be closing in 2010.
General Motors will send letters to 1,100 dealerships telling them they will be closed. That’s about one in six dealerships, according to a press release. With 12 dealerships in Richmond, that would mean two dealerships here will receive notice of their closure today, with more notices to come. A company press release, meanwhile, said GM will cut its number of dealerships by 40 percent by the end of 2010.
Yesterday, two local Chrysler dealerships were notified that they must close.
GM will release more details as the June 1st deadline nears, at which time its board must present its restructured company to the government as a condition of continued government assistance.
