Richmond not on the rich list

Forbes released its list of the 400 richest Americans yesterday. The usual suspects were there: Bill Gates at the top spot followed by Warren Buffett. And of course the Waltons were there as heirs to the Wal-Mart fortune.

Not a single Richmonder made the list, though six Virginians did. The minimum net worth to make the top 400 this year was $1 billion.

Virginians on the list included Jacqueline Mars, heir to the Mars candy fortune; Winnie Johnson Marquart, heir to the SC Johnson fortune. Carlyle Group executives and Northern Virginia residents William Conway and Daniel D’Aniello were tied at the 182nd spot each with a net worth of $2 billion. And AOL founder Stephen Case rounded out the richest Virginians at number 365 with a net worth of $1.1 billion.
