That idea was chosen as the best pitch at a business-plan competition for VCU students this week.
The students behind Thrive, Jason Bonasera, Rachell Krumm and Josh Grohler, won the $1,500 grand prize for their fitness company’s pitch—to produce and market a computerized watch that manages a user’s workout routine. The final round of judging was held at the law offices of Hirschler Fleischer on April 27.
The runner-up, which received $500, was More Than Cheer, a startup that provides cheerleading and dance instruction. BizSense previously wrote about More Than Cheer founder Brittany Rose, who was joined by Brent Dodd, Alec Rountree and Ibrahim Al-Jassim at the pitch.
The competition is the culmination of the entrepreneurship concentration program at the VCU School of Business.
The University of Richmond held its business plan competition earlier in April, with a plan to sell a dog collar that can be controlled with a mobile phone winning the top prize.
