A Texas health-care company is shutting down some of its local operations and laying off 42 Richmond workers.
Golden Living, which operates hundreds of nursing homes and rehabilitation centers across the country, is closing its Chesterfield billing center near 288 and the Chesterfield County Airport.
It will vacate 10,000 square feet of space at 7499 Whitepine Road.
The office will officially shut down Oct. 2, according to Golden Living spokesman Blair Jackson. Employees have been notified.
The closure is part of a consolidation plan the company announced late last year whereby the billing operations of five locations are being funneled into one in Fort Smith, Ark.
The consolidation will not affect Golden Living’s other Richmond facilities, which include nursing homes and rehabilitation centers in Glen Allen and Petersburg.
Headquartered in Plano, Tex., Golden Living runs more than 300 nursing and rehab facilities in 21 states. It also provides hospice and home health services and healthcare staffing.
