One of the area’s two big cable providers is cutting jobs.
Comcast said last week that it is planning to lay off 53 employees from its Richmond operations at 5401 Staples Mill Road.
Company spokesperson Aimee Metrick said the jobs up for elimination are call-center customer service positions. They are being consolidated into Comcast’s Maryland operations. The cuts go into effect Sept. 7.
“Beginning this fall, we will be combining our Richmond Customer Care operations into our existing call center locations in Silver Spring, MD and White Marsh, MD. We will continue to operate our facility in Richmond and only the call center representative positions are being moved,” Metrick said in an email.
Comcast will still have 420 employees working out of its 14-acre, 130,000-square-foot facility at Staples Mill and Dickens roads.
Metrick said the company would work with the affected employees if they want to apply for other positions at Comcast.
